Amazon Community School

Our Impact

Over 10 years ago G Adventures (Formerly Gap) began working with a local family in the Ecuadorian Amazon to develop a community-based tourism program where travellers are given the opportunity to experience daily life in the jungle, with Delfin Pauchi, his wife Estela and their six children.

Through Planeterra and traveller support we have continuously contributed to the development of the community school with donations going towards school supplies, teaching materials, providing drinking water and the construction of a kitchen and eating area.

In 2010 the Footprints Network, World Nomads' foundation supported the school by donating $1000 to fix its leaky roof, and a further $4000 to build a classroom at a nearby school that needed more space.

More Information

When we first started working in this community, children had to walk several hours to get to school but with funds generated through our community-based tourism program and the rest donated by community members, a school was built which now supports children between the ages of 6 and 12.
