While geographically so close to the frenzy of North America, yet a million miles away in culture and lifestyle, Central America offers countless opportunities for exploration. The Mayan Ruins of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador allure history buffs, while lovers of the outdoors will draw endless inspiration from the wildlife, breath-taking natural wonders and abundance of adventure activities in all seven countries.
Central America boasts some of the friendliest people on the planet, despite the continuing hardships faced by many in this post-conflict region. While the Civil Wars of the 1980s and 90s are long over, the social inequalities still exist, forcing large numbers of Central American citizens into extreme poverty. Unequal access to basic education, healthcare, food and clean drinking water is a problem for many. Additionally, there is a great need for environmental and wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
Planeterra is working in partnership with communities throughout Central America to alleviate each of these major issues at the grassroots level.
