Kids Saving the Rainforest (KSTR) is a non-profit organization founded in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica by two school children. In 1998, the girls, at 9 years old, sold painted rocks at a roadside table with the hopes of raising enough money to save the rainforests and Titi monkeys of the Manuel Antonio area.
Today Kids Saving the Rainforest has a variety of projects which include saving the endangered Titi Monkeys by erecting life saving bridges over major roads in the area. Recent studies have shown that since the bridges were built, the size of monkey troops have increased by 20%. KSTR also manages reforestation programs, the construction of an environmental education center and the rehabilitation of baby animals from the rainforest.
Travellers on G.A.P Adventures tours that pass through Manuel Antonio are able to visit the Kids Saving the Rainforest gift shop located at the Mono Azul Hotel which sells children's artwork and the work of local artists and craftspeople. The store also serves as an information source about the organization and environmental issues. 100% of profits from all sales go to support KSTR.
With donations made directly through the Planeterra Foundation our future goal is to help pay for the construction of an Environmental Education Center which will be used to educate local school children, adults and visitors about flora and fauna in the rainforest and how we can help to protect it.
