Kelly Galaski’s work with Planeterra has evolved from a range of activities including marketing, communications and international partnership coordination, to managing Planeterra’s Latin America program and internal operations. Kelly works with the Latin America project coordinators and Planeterra Ambassadors to identify local, project development partners in each of the important destinations that Planeterra’s industry partners serve. These partnerships link local projects with travelers who are looking for ways to contribute to the destinations they visit.
After several years of traveling and working in hotels and resorts in her native Toronto and Western Canada, Kelly decided to focus her career on sustainable tourism and international development. Kelly completed a Master in Environmental Studies (MES) degree with a focus on sustainability strategies for business and tourism for community development. Her major research involved working with the residents of southern Costa Rica on a community-based tourism (CBT) assessment and planning process, which gave her insight into the challenges, benefits and opportunities created by CBT.
