Planeterra is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and support of small communities around the globe. Formalized in 2003 by Gap Adventures, Planeterra evolved out of a long history of travelers committed to finding ways to give back to the people and places they visit.
With our network of international field offices and guides, local non-profits and charitable organizations, Planeterra boasts a unique insider’s understanding of the challenges facing the world today. Our goal is to empower local people and communities to strengthen their well being while promoting long-term, environmentally responsible growth.
Planeterra’s Voluntours offer travelers a hands-on opportunity to make a direct and lasting contribution while experiencing true cultural immersion. Travelers also have the option to give back through fundraising events and donations to their projects of choice, and are engaged in education and outreach programs on the principles of responsible travel.
Planeterra Projects span the arenas of health, education, employment skills training, cultural heritage preservation and environmental conservation. Where there is a need, we recognize it, and we act quickly to meet it. Whatever the project – from providing water tanks to families in Kenya to women’s weaving in Peru – Planeterra has the insight, agility and technical and financial wherewithal to successfully see it through.
