amazon community school, ecuador
Over 10 years ago G Adventures began working with a local
family in the Ecuadorian Amazon to develop a community-based tourism program
where travellers are given the opportunity to experience daily life in the

jungle, with Delfin Pauchi, his wife Estela and their six children.
When we first started working in this community, children had to walk several
hours to get to school but with funds generated through our community-based
tourism program and the rest donated by community members, a school was built
which now supports children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Through Planeterra and traveller support we have continuously contributed to
the development of the community school with donations going towards school
supplies, teaching materials, providing drinking water and the construction of
a kitchen and eating area.
With little opportunity for children of the community to study past secondary
school, we have now developed a brand new scholarship fund that will enable
youth from this school to follow their chosen career path, providing them with
better opportunities for the future. Through Planeterra donations to this project will help us
provide scholarships for youth in this community in trade schools, colleges and
universities.
