bal prakash centre, india

In Hindi, Bal means children
and Prakash means light. Bal
Prakash Children’s Centre is a school and refuge for at-risk children in
Ajmer, India. At
the moment, there are about eighty children in the school, 26 girls and the
rest are boys. Their age range from six to seventeen and the oldest have been
there for twelve years now. The centre is aimed at providing the children with an
education, and the skills needed to help them develop into self-sufficient
adults with a bright future.
In addition to classroom blocks, which
double as sleeping areas at night, the school has a large garden where the
children learn how to grow their own vegetables and fruit trees, and the
produce is incorporated into daily meals. The children also care for animals
that live on the grounds. The children wake up at five thirty daily and help out with the chores.
School starts around 8:30 am and finishes by noon. They take great pride in
helping out in the kitchen and cropping fruits and vegetables in their organic
farm.
The future plans for Bal Prakash are:
·
upgrade the school and the infrastructure
·
set up craft workshop
·
introduce vocational and life skills life such as carpentry and tailoring.
·
training in horticulture
·
create a theater and music workshop.
