Water for Guatemala

Location: Jalapa, Guatemala

In Guatemala we support a clean water project that has successfully drilled deep-water wells in water-starved communities, ranging in depth from six hundred to one thousand two hundred feet. As a result, there are now tens of thousands of Guatemalans receiving clean drinking water directly to their homes. The health of these communities has greatly improved, women are relieved of the time consuming task of searching for water on a daily basis and they are now able to water their small vegetable gardens all year around.  With your support we can continue to provide clean water and improve the quality of life of communities throughout Guatemala.

Why is this project needed?
In the remote western highlands of Guatemala where this project is located, women must walk 2 – 10kms each day in search of water. They then carry 20-litre buckets of water on their heads over steep, mountainous terrain back to their homes. These same water boreholes that are used to collect water for drinking are also used for bathing, washing clothes, and as a drinking source for animals. As a result, the water is highly contaminated and leads to high infant mortality rates due to parasites and diarrheal illnesses.

DONATE to give Water to Guatemala
By donating to this project, you can help us to improve the lives of people in rural Guatemala by providing clean water to those who need it.
