Spend five days living and volunteering alongside an indigenous family in the Ecuadorian Highlands as you experience their way of life and help out where needed. Based on your individual interests, you can choose to participate in the daily activities of your host family, help out at the community daycare and school, or on the communal organic farm.

Other activities include a guided tour to the Equator, indigenous communities, colourful markets, waterfalls and sacred lakes.

Day 1 

 Arrive Quito
Arrive in Quito at any time.

Day 2

 Visit to the Equator / Cotacachi Homestay
Today we travel on a guided tour from Quito to Otavalo stopping en route to visit Mitad del Mundo, the Equatorial Monument that marks 0º latitude, and the Middle of the World. The day endMighty-Site® | Mighty-Cart® by Orbit Media Studios, Incs in Cotacachi with your family homestay.

Day 3

 Indigenous Village Tour / Cotacachi Homestay
Today we visit four indigenous villages where you will have the opportunity to observe traditional handicraft making techniques, from weaving to musical instruments. Shop for hand crafted leather goods, visit a sacred waterfall and end the day at a spectacular volcanic lake.


Day 4-7 

 Volunteer / Cotacachi Homestay
Spend four days living and volunteering alongside an indigenous fami ly in the Ecuadorian Highlands. Enjoy your time participating in the daily activities of your host family, at the school, or on the communal organic farm.

You may also help out in a Minga (communal gathering to accomplish a specific task), paint schools, volunteer with women’s micro-credit projects, assist reforestation projects or teach English. Activities depend on what your interests are and what is happening in the community at the time of your arrival.

Day 8

 Otavalo Market / Quito
After breakfast, say goodbye to your host family and visit Otavalo’s world famous handicrafts market, one of the largest in South America. Villagers from the surrounding countryside come here every week to sell handicrafts as well as livestock, fruits and vegetables. After shopping to your hearts content, return to Quito and your last night on the town.
