Planeterra keeps track of the donations received and disperses resources on an annual basis to local non-governmental organizations and community projects abroad. Based on the individual needs of each project, the money donated to this fund is distributed in a variety of ways such as cash, clothing, shoes, school and healthcare supplies, as well as tools and equipment. However, as your ground training is valid for 60 days, you may also reschedule for another day within the following 60-day period.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You will want to dress appropriately for the weather. Light, loose, comfortable clothing is best. In the summer months a t-shirt and shorts or track pants work just fine. It is not recommended to wear jeans for your jump, as they will be somewhat constricting underneath your jumpsuit. You will be provided with an appropriate jumpsuit to put over top of your clothing for your jump.
It is also important for you to bring are a good pair of supportive running shoes. Sandals, moccasins or boots/shoes with hooks are not permitted.
SWOOP (South Western Ontario Organization of Parachutists)
Skydive SWOOP, located in Dundas, Ontario, just 45 minutes from Toronto, is hosting the Planeterra Jump For Charity. SWOOP is a non-profit skydiving club run exclusively by experienced volunteer members. Incorporated in 1979, SWOOP has earned its outstanding reputation across Canada and the United States for providing services to hundreds of first-jump students every year. SWOOP is a member of both the Canadian Sport Parachuting Association (CSPA), and the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
In addition to hosting the event, SWOOP has offered to donate one free Tandem jump that will be awarded to the top fundraiser for Planeterra. The lucky winner can use this as an additional jump on the same day, or ask for it to be issued in the form of a gift certificate that will be valid for the 2007 season.
DO YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SWOOP SKYDIVER?
Skydive SWOOP regulations mandate that you MUST be 18 years of age to participate in skydiving with no exceptions. If you are over the age of 40, a note is required from your Doctor, stating you are physically fit to participate in skydiving. Everyone must be in fairly good physical shape, and be able to bend, stretch and kneel comfortably. Skydiving is not recommended for people that are not in good physical shape.
Due to the nature of skydiving student gear, weight limitations are imposed. A parachute has a downward speed that is partly dependant upon the weight of the person suspended under it. To ensure a reasonable speed upon landing, the maximum weight limit of any student is 225 lbs.
If you have sustained any type of injury in the past, and question whether or not you should be participating in skydiving, please consult your Doctor. Members of SWOOP are not medical experts and do not know how skydiving might affect you! It is for your safety that you speak with a medical professional.
