Project: SALESIANO STREET CHILDREN PROJECT
Country: ECUADOR

The Salesiano Street Children Project supports 50 children who live and/or work on the streets of Quito by providing them with a safe environment where they can enjoy a warm meal, receive educational and psychological support, and participate in music and cultural workshops. Family outreach is provided to parents and children are also able to participate in soccer school on Sundays. This reference center is located in the poor sector of Quito and is one of the only places where these children can take a break from working on the streets and receive individual care and support.

Planeterra Donation Breakdown
2007: Ellen Carol and her dog Sammy biked from Toronto to Prince Edward Island raising $4,000 for Planeterra’s Salesiano’s Street Children project. Ellen is a singer/songwriter and music teacher. She performed with local musicians at venues along the way. As Ellen is a music teacher this project was particularly of interest to her as the funds she raised are going to support Salesiano’s Music & Performing Arts Program. This program will teach children dance, music and performance skills enabling them to earn money by performing at various festivals in and around Quito. Funds raised will provide wages for a music instructor, the purchase of uniforms, an amplifier, sound equipment, microphones, guitars and other instruments.
